Child Support
Child support is intended to assist the parent who is caring for the child with the day-to-day child-related expenses. The monthly amount is determined according to the Federal Child Support Guidelines.
If the child (or children) resides with both parents relatively equally, an analysis can be made to determine the appropriate amount of child support.
Special or extraordinary expenses (also called section 7 expenses) are expenses that are incurred on behalf of the child that are not ordinary expenses. They can include competitive sports/lessons costs, sports equipment costs, post-secondary education costs, uninsured medical costs, and more. Typically, both parents pay these in amounts proportionate to their income levels.
We can help determine the child support amount payable and the proportion of special or extraordinary costs.
